BASS PRO SHOP GRAPEVINE SERIES TOURNAMENT ON LAKE RAY ROBERTS
Saturday, April 9, 2016
The Bass Pro Shop Grapevine Series tournament on Lake Ray Roberts hosted the second “open” tournament of the spring on Saturday. Several anglers competed, but only 25 teams would cross the stage.
We loaded up our gear onto our Ranger z71 and arrived at the Jordan Park boat ramp around 5:30 a.m. to prepare for launch. The weather was fairly mild that morning and we had a gorgeous Texas sunrise for take-off. The mild, but overcast weather lasted the majority of the day, however an hour before weigh-in, a cold front moved in bringing some light rain with it. The day started off fairly slow, a few bites here and there, but nothing to show for it. Finally, we had some luck on a deep diving crankbait to start things off. We put a decent 4 lber in the well around noon, and two smaller fish to follow it up. Overall we caught about 10 or 11 bass, but only kept 3.
Weigh-in was set for 3pm back at the boat ramp, so we high-tailed it back in time to weigh-in our bag. We didn’t get a limit, but we were still excited to get up on that stage! There were a few guys with bags similar to ours, a few others that didn’t weigh at all, and then there were some that took two to carry one bag. Those are the giant sacks we all had hoped for, but only a few were lucky to get.
Here is how the final leaderboard played out:
“Clay Shipe and Brandon Dillard topped the field of 35 teams sacking an impressive 24.15 pound limit anchored by a 6.57 kicker that took second BIG BASS honors. Joe Rome and Joel McBride finished second with 23.83 pounds. The third spot went to Trent Meneese and Jeff Irwin with 21.85 pounds plus the overall BIG BASS of the day weighing 7.70 pounds. David Crow and Mark Child slid into fourth place boating 20.58 pounds. Fifth place went to Andy Sallee and Ron Flowers with their 16.21 pound limit. Rounding out the top-six was Dan Beard and Kyle Judd with 15.10 pounds.” – @bassproshopgrapevineseries
