Our annual trip to Lake Conroe for the Big Bass Tour March 1-3, 2019 was a blast. The weather may have been freezing most of the time, and the wind may have turned the lake into a giant washing machine, but by golly we survived and even weighed a fish.
A couple of our friends from the Dallas area had some luck on the first day. Tim Meenan weighed an 8.78 lber in the 10-11 hour to hang on for 1st place and put an extra $1k in his pocket. JD Yarbrough – who was only able to run on his trolling motor the entire tournament after some main motor complications – was able to overcome that and go on to catch a 9.87 lb mondo to win the Friday, 1-2pm hour. Both hung on the entire weekend to place in the Top 10 overall weights for the tournament, so congrats to y’all.
We had to grind it out every day. Lake Conroe continues to be our nemisis and one that I vow to overcome. I caught fish, but just not the weights I was looking for. Sunday was the worst day weather-wise, but actually one of my better days for catching fish. I was able to put a 2.5 lber in the livewell, and although it might not have been the biggest fish, I knew the weights on the board were lower that morning, so I brought it in anyways. You never know how the weights are going to fall. I was sitting in 6th for quite a while up until the last few seconds of the hour where I got bumped to 12th.
All in all it was a good weekend. We love going down to Lake Conroe for the Big Bass Tour not only for the fishing, but for the camaraderie. If you are interested in entering one of the tournaments on the Big Bass Tour, you can check out the schedule here, and see if there is a tournament in your area.
