Happy New Year, Texas Bass Anglers. You know what it is. New year’s resolution time. Yes, the time has come when we all vow to make major changes in our lives and swear we will stick by them. You’ve probably heard them all and made a few yourself, but have they ever panned out? Here are a few of my personal favorites: If you’re fat, get skinny. If you smoke, quit. If you dip, quit that too. Quit anything that’s bad for you. Fish more. Eat less. Drink less. Cuss less. Be more charitable. Go to church. The list goes on. Who has ever made a resolution and kept it longer than 2 weeks? Show of hands ……….? That’s okay, me neither. But, this year it’s going to be different. (We say that every year too, don’t we?)
The bottom line is, new year’s resolutions should be about something we truly believe in and are prepared to change. If you resolve to eat healthier, but deep down you know you’re just a fat sob that loves donuts, who are you kidding? No one. Don’t lie to yourself or others and make promises you know you are not prepared to keep. It’s okay to love donuts! Or whatever else it is you enjoy. Besides, resolutions should be about small, attainable goals that set us up for success. Not something ridiculous, like never eating donuts again. How about something like – I’ll only eat one donut for breakfast instead of two? Moderation is key. And hey, Mama didn’t raise no quitter!
Part of this post is to let y’all know that we’re all human and we all go through the same internal struggles, and part of it is writing down my own resolutions hoping to God I don’t fail in 2 weeks. So here it is – my resolution for 2019 – is to post more content on this blog and all of my social channels than I did last year, and to devote more time and effort into doing more of what I love, which is fishing. Whether that be entering more tournaments – which we have some coming up that we’ll talk about on here later (see, already making plans to post more content) – or whether it be getting out on my home lake or local pond more to just have some fun, that is what I resolve to do. After all, that’s what it’s supposed to be about, right? Having fun. Enjoying more of what you’re passionate about. Striking a balance between what we love to do and work is what makes life worthwhile. Eventually, if we stick to our resolutions, as long as we actually like them or the idea of the end result, we will all get there. The key is choosing something you’re passionate about, prepared to change, and willing to get off your duff and go do. So get out there and make 2019 a great year! Here’s to getting skinny, or whatever.
Let me know in the comments what your new year’s resolutions are for 2019. Thanks for a great year. Here’s to exciting things ahead.
Keep on Rippin’, y’all.
